ELVEssentially Literal Version

The Second Letter of John

Greeting

1 The elder to the elect lady and her children, whom I love in truth, and not I only, but also everyone knowing the truth, 2 because the truth is remaining in us and will be with us forever:

3 Grace, mercy, peace will be with us, from God the Father, and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, in truth and love.

Walking in Truth and Love

4 I rejoiced greatly because I have found some of your children walking in truth, just as we received a commandment from the Father. 5 And now I ask you, Lady — not as I am writing to you a new commandment, but that which we were having from the beginning — that we love one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments; this is the commandment, just as you all heard from the beginning, that you all should walk in it. 7 For many deceivers went out into the world, those not confessing Jesus Christ coming in the flesh. This is the deceiver and the antichrist. 8 Watch yourselves that you all may not lose what we worked for but may receive a full reward. 9 Everyone going ahead and not remaining in the teaching of Jesus Christ does not have God. The one remaining in the teaching, this one has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you all and does not bring this teaching, do not receivea him into your house and do not giveb him any greeting, 11 for the one greeting him takes part in his wicked works.

Final Greetings

12 Having much to write to you all, I am not willing to use paper and ink, but I am hoping to come to you all and to speak face to face in order that ourc joy may be fulfilled.

13 The children of your elect sister greet you.
